About this experience
Elijah Whelchel started waxpool in 2021 as a solo project, writing and recording in a home office in Denver. At the end of 2025 it became a band: Whelchel on vocals and guitar, Lauren Holsinger on guitar, Jack Salyers on bass, and Yara Kaadan on drums. They still record everything in that same room. The sound is guitar-driven indie rock in the spirit of the 2010s, built from simple parts that lock together. In under a year the band has put out a debut EP, "i love it here," headlined the hi-dive, played nine summer shows in four cities, and released a new single, "caught up." Westword named "pretend" one of the best new Denver releases of February 2026, and Indie 102.3 featured the band in its Local 303. On Friday, October 30, waxpool returns to Lost Lake on East Colfax, the room where they made their debut in April. They share a five-band Halloween-eve bill with Dry Ice, Blankslate, Rosebay and SEMPAR. This one is for anyone who wants to catch a new Denver band early. Doors open at 7 and music starts at 8. Ages 16 and up.
What makes it unique
waxpool writes and records every song in a home office, then brings them to the same small Colfax stage where they played their first Lost Lake show. SEMPAR, who opened their EP release night, is on the bill again.
