Contemporary Class in Boulder, Colorado: what to expect

Contemporary classes in Boulder, Colorado: what's coming up and the local performers behind it, all hosted by people rooted in the Boulder scene.

A university town shaped by CU Boulder, with a music, comedy, and stage calendar larger than its size would suggest and a steady supply of student and touring acts.

Growing out of modern and ballet, contemporary dance favors floorwork, weight-sharing, release, and improvisation, prizing inventive movement and expression over any fixed vocabulary.

Attend a recurring lesson series that builds skills step by step over weeks. Instruction is structured and cumulative, so each session assumes the last; you participate rather than watch.

On the calendar now: "Sydney Suter teaches an all-levels contemporary class at Streetside Dance, the longtime Boulder studio on Arapahoe that anchors the area's dance community". "The Mariposa Collective brings an all-levels contemporary class to Mi Chantli, led by Cass Howlett". "Carolina Brizuela, a modern-contemporary choreographer and assistant director, teaches a class built around story-line movement".
